How do we lead a more meaningful life? How can we make sure what we've done in our brief lives have any real lasting value? How can we be sure our lives are lived with true purpose?
Many time as we walk through life, we have a lot of dreams and goals, but we also get distracted easily. As we grow, we learn that life gets hard, and responsibilities multiply. And we sometimes don't realize how short life really is, maybe until we see others we know face death. And we look back and wonder if what we've done in our life had any real purpose or meaning.
Billy Graham once said, "The greatest surprise in my life is the brevity of life. I never dreamed life was going to be so short."
The Bible says that God has placed eternity in the hearts of men.
One of the ways to measure the meaning in our lives is to shift our perspective to an eternal perspective. In 1 Corinthians 3 it talks about what we've done in our lives being measured to see if it has eternal value or was worthless.
If we only have the perspective to live to do things for the very short time we have in the here and now, we will miss out on doing things that matter for ages to come and even all throughout eternity.
